About

I was once introduced at a spoken word event as:
"If punk-rock and a flowerbed could be one person, I'd name it Rose."

When I was 16-years-old and deciding what I wanted to do with my life, I was a closeted kid suffering greatly from anxiety and depression. I wanted nothing more in the world than to feel seen, heard, and understood; to heal from what I thought were these dark, unspeakable parts of myself. Some of the only times I felt close to that salvation was when I found books and stories I related to.

When I started at Champlain College, it was my intent to become a writer who produced empathy, understanding, and healing through fictional storytelling, the way it did for me. While earning my degree, though, I had the chance to experiment with all kinds of writing and the opportunity to intern with several organizations. By the time I graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor's Degree in Professional Writing, my interests and goals had changed pretty significantly.

As much as I love creative writing, I grew a lot while earning my degree. Working with marginalized and minority groups through my jobs and internships taught me that while writing personal fiction is satisfying to do on the side, it's a lot more fulfilling for me to use my skills in ways that help people more directly.

When I decided to pursue this career and industry, my main goal was to help people feel seen, heard, and understood by writing stories that spoke to the secret and dark places in them -- to help with healing. While I still work towards this goal in my personal writing, I wish to be part of an organization whose goal is to fix the systematic issues that fuel the need for healing, the parts of our society/world that make those dark places in us.
